All wood burning systems generate a certain amount of smoke residues and coatings, often referred to as creosote. These creosote residues will accumulate in varying degrees throughout the upper chambers of the stove and chimney during the heating season. Creosote is known to attract moisture, especially so during spring and summer seasons in the Maritimes. This mixture of creosote and moisture can be quite corrosive to wood heaters and chimneys and may shorten the lifespan of the heater and chimney system.  Annual chimney inspection & cleanings are highly recommended to help maintain a safe and efficient chimney system, especially so if the heating system is a primary heat source.

Wood Energy Technology Transfer Inc. better known as WETT is a non-profit training and education association whose mandate is to promote the safe and effective use of wood-burning systems among industry professionals. Custom Made Heat Shields and Floor Protection – Safeguard specializes in custom made metal heat shields and floor protection. Sheet metal & ⅛ steel plate available, depending on the application. Painted black finish. Ideal in situations for smaller spaces or installations with tight clearances.
